At the American Academy, Flournoy will read from a novel-in-progress that tracks the lives of a group of African-American women living in Los Angeles and New York over two decades, from present-day to the near future. She will also discuss her research, which focuses on shifting demographics in urban centers and how these changes impact the sense of community, isolation, and belonging among African-American city-dwellers.
